Snowy skin uses apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is very versatile and I make sure I use one that comes with "the mother".

There are a few things that I would love to have with me all the time and one of them is Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV). It is so versatile that I can go through more than a litre bottle of it nearly every month!

I use it for nearly everything, from salads, to my skincare to cleaning. I make sure I buy raw organic ACV with the “mother” that comes in a glass bottle and Australian made if possible.

I have tried many brands of ACV but currently my favourite is Spreyton Apple Cider Vinegar which is cold pressed, unfiltered, unpasteurised and contains The Mother. I choose this brand because it is an Australian produce from the pristine orchards in Tasmania. Even though I don't think they're organic, they grow their apples in a biologically sustainable system.

What is ACV and what is “The Mother”?

ACV, as the name suggests, is made with fermented apples. I think it is important that the apples are organic and or comes from a place that is as pristine as possible. “The mother” is that spidery looking thing that sits at the bottom of the bottle. “The mother” is the most nutritious part of the vinegar.

To use ACV in your salad as a dressing is easy, you can just mix along with olive oil but in this blog I’m going to talk about how I use it as skincare.

Using ACV on my face?! I'm not a salad!

Yeah I'm not a salad, but I believed it can make my skin better.

I make a bottle of diluted ACV for my convenience. I use a small glass bottle and poured in roughly 50% ACV and then added mineral water or cooled boiled water to the rest of the bottle. I had tried making a spray bottle (as 50-50 dilution) but for some reason I didn’t like spraying my face with it. I DO NOT use straight (ie. undiluted) ACV on my face because it is way to acidic and can burn my face.

After washing my face, I pour a little of the diluted ACV onto a cotton pad and dab it all over my face, focusing on places with any acne, acne scars or freckles before I continue with my normal skincare routine.

What does ACV do to my face? Well, I feel that it makes my face much smoother and softer. The smell is not great, but I don’t find it disgusting either. The smell really goes away after my whole skincare routine.

A week after I had started using diluted ACV as a toner for my face, I had more breakouts. At first I wasn’t very pleased but I wanted to try it for a longer period before I make any decisions. I also suspected it was actually helping me to draw out all the “rubbish” from my face before it can clear up. After a total of three weeks, my skin cleared right up.

Now that I have been using ACV as a tone for more than three months, I've had nearly NO breakouts. There were maybe one or two in total and I put some tea tree oil on it straight away and it disappears overnight. NOW I can't live without ACV!
