I'm making my own face masks in the kitchen. Not only are they good for me, natural (I know exactly what's in them) and very economical.
In my first post on face masks, I outlined how much it actually costs to use sheet face masks everyday and that led me to start making my own.
At first I didn't really know how to do it. My mum had taught me how to make some basic masks before like egg white mask and honey and oatmeal. But I had never liked doing those, it was messy and it didn't feel relaxing.
Then I realised if I have a method and recipe for everything and I can apply them in a paste, I would be much more likely to use it.
So I decided that my face masks should contain roughly four basic ingredients:
1. dry powdery ingriedent
2. liquid ingredient
3. fresh ingredient
4. essential oil
For the dry ingredients, I make them into power form in my blender. The liquid ingredients are already in my kitchen and the fresh ingredients are food that I am already eating that day.
Examples of dried ingredients: oatmeal, rice flour
Examples of liquid ingredients: honey, yoghurt, olive oil, rosewater
Examples of fresh ingredients: avocado, banana, papaya
These are just a few examples. You can read more about the ingredients here and about essential oils here.
Now I'm going to talk about the most important step here: PREPARATION. Without proper preparation, I wouldn't keep doing face masks every night.
1. Container: I found a small bowl in the kitchen that I hardly use. I know it is not a container that I use for raw meat.
2. Prepare my dry ingredients by putting them into the blender and making them into powered form. I store them in a glass jar in the pantry. I can use them for my cooking recipes as well as my face!
3. Make sure I have other ingredients like yoghurt, honey etc in my fridge or pantry. This isn't difficult for me because I usually have them anyway.
That's it, I'm ready to start making my own face masks.
Now, on to the ingredients I use.
